Stage 2 of the NASCAR Coke Zero 400 Cup Series ended Saturday night in Daytona with a massive crash.
Ty Gibbs spun off the bumper of Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Christopher Bell in Turns 3 and 4 and hit the right rear of Ryan Blaney’s car. Blaney then hit the wall at a vicious angle and more than a dozen other drivers were collected in the aftermath.
The accident happened on lap 90 – the last lap of the stage. Blaney managed to get out of his car after the accident.
Sixteen drivers were involved in the accident and NASCAR had to red flag the race to clean up the track and remove all of the wrecked cars.
Chase Elliott somehow made it through the accident with little to no damage. He needs a win on Saturday night to qualify for the playoffs after missing seven regular season races due to injury and suspending one race.
Bill, Tyler Reddick, Denny Hamlin, William Byron, and others were also part of the accident. Brad Keselowski ended up winning stage two ahead of Kyle Busch as they managed to escape the crash by being on the inside line behind Blaney.
