Luka Doncic put in an outstanding performance on Monday during Slovenia’s 88-67 victory over Georgia in the FIBA Basketball World Cup. The Dallas Mavericks star scored a game-high 34 points, 10 rebounds and six assists to lead his country to the top of their group.
Slovenia advanced 14-2 in the first four minutes. But Georgia shot back, 15-2, to narrowly finish the first quarter. The two teams faced back-and-forth clashes throughout the second half before Slovenia finished the first half with a 45-33 lead.
Dončić played consistently well throughout the match but took over in the third period as Slovenia continued to pull away. He scored 10 points with five rebounds and two assists as Slovenia entered the fourth quarter with a 13-point lead.
Slovenia took a 12-0 opener in the fourth quarter to build up a near insurmountable lead it never relinquished with a 21-point victory.
Donic and company face Cape Verde in their final group stage match. Cape Verde is the smallest country to participate in the FIBA World Cup He won his first ever match against Venezuela earlier on Monday.
